Taster’s Choice 8: The Chemical Brothers

chembrothersrockhal8.jpg

The Chemical Brothers sampled Nicole Wray? What?? Maaaad random. If you don’t remember who that is, she was a member of Timbaland and Missy’s clique circa the mid-nineties, thus prompting that Aaliyah video post yesterday. In any case, in addition to the Nicole Wray track, here are a few more songs (a good amount of breakbeats- break out the cardboard) that Tom and Ed sampled. You like how I just said that like I know them right? “Yeah, I’m about to go chill at Tom at Ed’s crib real quick – Be right back!”

Anyway! My NYC folks, they’ll be performing live with Ladytron on the 22nd in Williamsburg. Get at me if you’re trying to roll. In the meantime, dig in.

Joe Ski Love – “Do The Pee Wee Herman
used in “Hey Girl Hey Boy”

Mantronix – “King of the Beats
used in “Song to the Siren”

Schooly D – “Gucci Again
used in “Block Rockin’ Beats”

Rah Digga – “Party And Bullshit
used in “Shake Break Bounce”

Kurtis Blow – “The Breaks
used in “It Began In Afrika”

Rock Master Scott & The Dynamic Three – “The Roof Is On Fire
used in “Hey Boy Hey Girl”

Nicole Wray feat. Missy Elliot & Mocha – “Make It Hot
used in “Music: Response”

Renegade Soundwave – “Thunder
used in “Morning Lemon”

Bob James – “Take Me To The Mardi Gras
used in “Dig Your Own Hole”

The Beatles – “Tomorrow Never Knows
used in “Setting Sun”

Damnit, shit written about here and on palms out makes me wish I lived in NY and not DC every week. I’m coming up for Ladytron and Chem Bros, though. Combined with the spankrock instore on Friday, it makes it worth a weekend trip.
