First off, the kicks Lupe has on in this pic are still effin’ nutso. Secondly, Nikki Jean (aka shorty on the hook) is fine as a muh, and that reason alone constitutes a healthy percentage of why I’m posting the “Hip-Hop Saved My Life” video below. That, and the track is a standout on The Cool. I’ve had a couple of conversations in regards to what Lupe is trying to do with the song, and I still feel that he essentially is trying to humanize some of the so called crack rappers, and make it known that hardships/struggles/valid dreams lay behind the verbal crillzmania carnivals they put forth, which the music intelligentsia is often quick to lambast. As a result of this and other factors, we’re frequently left with a poorly pixellated view of the actual people behind the music. Does that make the i’llshootyouinthetoeifyousmudgemypuma rhetoric more justified? Iono doggy, that sounds like an issue waiting to be tackled on another Lupe song. Am I way the hell off base? Maybe, you tell me – suggestions are welcome. But what I do know, is that it’s dope that Lupe showed the H-town a lot of love in the video. Peep for yourself after the jump. And Nikki Jean look fine as a muh.
