Nice events. Cool parties. Oh, and they make clothes too. We had a quick chat with the HLIC of Yours Truly Jenny Musitano. Peep the atari action below.
AS: Where do you live? We don’t mean that in a stalker kind of way! Just curious to know which borough/city you claim
I reside in Brooklyn NY, Bushwick to be exact. I claim Brooklyn, but I always keep it true to Maryland.
AS: Where did you grow up? What was it like?
I grew up in a small town called Crofton (“C Town”) in Maryland, growing up it never seemed like a small town though because I was so involved and had so many friends and all the towns were so close, but looking back it really was a small town. There was not much culture. There were all those people that thought they were tough shit, fighting was “cool”… they were quick to fight you, it was definitely kind of preppy too though.
AS: Were your parents strict with you? Or rather, is there anything you reaaaally wanted that you got shut down on?
Being the youngest of 3 I had it a little bit easier… I remember my dad would tell me not to be a rat and squeal on my sisters, I don’t think my sister got that lesson…I used to sneak out a lot and never get caught, and one time I snuck out with my friend and came back through the window and predictably enough my mom was sitting in the dark waiting for me, I don’t even remember if she said anything I just remember that I had Wu Tang and Rage Against the Machine concert tickets and as punishment they took them away.
AS: What group would you say you were in – cool kids, outcasts, studious types, athletes, etc..
I was really friends with everyone but I’d have to say… cool kids. I did play sports and always had some core friends, but mixed it up a bit.
AS: What kind of stuff were you and your friends into?
It was pretty simple in MD…Hip Hop, smoking blunts, and stealing clothes…?? Depends on [the stage I was in]. Stages are good for people I think.
AS: What fashion era/motif/trend would you say you first fell in love with?
Had to think about this one, but it has to be colored Guess Jeans…I had over a dozen pairs.
AS: How did Yours Truly happen? By that I mean, was it a spontaneous decision or more like a lifelong dream so to speak that’s now coming to fruition?
It was a lifelong dream but then it did just kinda happen one day, it’s really both I swear.
AS: What were some obstacles you faced trying to start up Yours Truly? Are there any obstacles you’re facing now that you’re trying to work through?
It’s been a constant struggle, hustle, and learning experience.
AS: Which (musical) artists do you listen to while working? if any
I listen to a lot of old R&B songs and hits…I probably listen to more female artists because it helps my work flow better, but it depends on the mood I’m in.
AS: Are there other brands you look to for inspiration, or does it come from random sources like the design on the pizza delivery box you may have gotten yesterday
Always just random from the dome.
AS: Who would you want to work with?
Good, smart people. The people I work with now are dumb-asses…Mae, Dara, Olivia, Alby, and Valz.
