Great news and I can’t wait for the doc but I don’t think it’s accurate to label Bad Brains as “punk” pioneers. No doubt they’re a seminal “hardcore” band and arguably the greatest ever, but to consider them as pioneers of punk rock would be like saying RUN DMC were hip hop pioneers. Gotta save that honor for the The Stooges. Keep up the good work!
I hear you homie, but I think it really all depends on a person’s definition of pioneer. Is Run DMC Kool Herc? Def not, but it’s undeniable that things pre and post Run DMC were different, and put into effect in the (relatively) early days of the genre. I also don’t find the term to be exclusive…i.e. I would just as quickly consider Afrika Bambaataa and Grand Wizard Theodore pioneers as I would Run DMC, LL Cool J, and others.
