I vaguely remember urbanwordnyc mentor Eliel aka DJ Feliz Cumbe trying to put me on to UK MC Durrty Goodz a while back and I think I did the oh yeah word? cool i’ll check him out type response and nod and never really got around to it. So I don’t even remember how I came across his new album a cpl weeks back but I guess that name recognition prompted me to actually listen and yeah…good decision. Head over to his site to grab the full album Born Blessed for free.

Makossa & Megablast feat. Cleydys Villalon -- “Soy Como Soy” [via]

Pretty lady dances on a rooftop. No chauvo on me but I’m enthralled, rendering the disclaimer at the very tippy top of the clip (blink and you’ll miss it) invalid. I have a question that I already know the answer to. Like, was this filmed in New York? I suspect no, because there’s a shot that reveals some roofing that doesn’t look like anything I’ve seen in the city, but besides that, this could easily have been on a downtown NYC rooftop. Plus Ms. Villalon got that flavor. Like if those earrings were big gold hoops I woulda said eyes be danged, this is definitely NYC. Even though this tune’s  global club vibes come via three Vienna (Austria!) based artists. Nice. I’m rambling. To the factoids. The single is a part of a two song package released in May on International Deejay Gigolo Records (say that three X fast). Grab “Soy Como Soy”, or the whole package (a-yo), now on itunes.

Ahhh – been meaning to chat about The Conversation Piece for a while, and their new summer drop gives me a fresh opportunity. If M.I.S.S. Crew didn’t already put you on, The Conversation Piece is an online thrift boutique that presents quality vintage items in a seasonal collection format. In other words, where other sites would only say have a webshop, the heart of TCP is really the photography, and the implicit knowledge of the time and conceptualizing that you know went into each shoot (which they apparently redo with every drop). Impressive.

Take a look at TCP here, or if you already like what you see/hear, head straight over to their shop.

The shared experiences of the folk in post Katrina New Orleans and the citizens of post apartheid South Africa meet in a photographic series in three parts at the Studio Museum of Harlem. The works of South African photographer Zwelethu Mthethwa will be featured at SMH starting July 15 until October 24. “Interiors”, “Empty Beds” and “Common Ground” are visual narratives that are told from the perspective of the South African working class.

Also, check out the new audio installation by DJ/Rupture of Dutty Artz fame, a part of the museum’s StudioSound series.

Lance Drummonds – “The Opposite of No” [Live Video]

#Noshots – but I’m sayin…in an era where even established R&B stars are trying to show just how far in the future they’re from, ain’t it nice to have some smooth, classic grooves? My personal opinion anyway. Now, if you frequent the site, or downloaded Scareapeutic, you should be pretty familiar with the homie Lance Drummonds. If not, quick refresher – hella talented Long Island raised soul singer/songwriter. Counts Alicia Keys and Stevie Wonder among his influences. And to this R&B music avoiding writer, just about the only singer I fux with hardbody pause besides the guy with the hot ass songs about pulling yamaha panties to the side or something.

His debut album Time and Space drops 8.9.10. Download the fully mixed and mastered studio version of “The Opposite of No” now, fo’ free, from soundcloud.
